How Our Treasure Search Service Works

Site Guides

Some Japanese products are difficult to find even when you know exactly what you’re looking for.

Rare collectibles, discontinued products, limited-edition items, vintage goods, retro games, and other hard-to-find treasures may appear unexpectedly on Japanese flea market sites, auction platforms, or online stores.

Treasure Search is our one-month ongoing search service for customers looking for rare and hard-to-find Japanese products.

Instead of searching once and stopping, we continue monitoring relevant Japanese online sources throughout the service period.

We also contact stores when necessary and use other methods to help locate your requested item.

Best For

Treasure Search is ideal for customers looking for:

  • Rare or discontinued Japanese products
  • Limited-edition or event-exclusive items
  • Vintage and collectible items
  • Retro games and older merchandise
  • Anime and manga collectibles
  • Items that rarely appear online
  • Items sold through Japanese flea market or auction sites
  • Products that require ongoing monitoring to find

How It Works

1
Step 1
Submit Your Request

Tell us what you’re looking for. You do not need to have a product URL. You can provide:

  • Product name
  • Photos
  • Product description
  • Preferred condition
  • Budget
  • Known stores or websites
  • Reference links
  • Any other information you already have

Even if you only have a photo or a vague description, that’s okay. We’ll start by reviewing the information you provide.

2
Step 2
Free Research

We begin with a free initial research of your request. We research the product and its current market situation, including:

  • Product identification
  • Current availability
  • Previous sales and listings
  • Approximate market price
  • Current market value
  • Where the item may potentially be found
  • Whether ongoing searching is likely to be worthwhile

If we determine that your request can be completed through a single online research service, we may recommend Deep Research. If you already have a product URL, Easy Buy may be the better option. If ongoing searching is appropriate, we will recommend Treasure Search.

3
Step 3
Research Report & Search Plan

Based on our free research, we provide a Research Report. We then carefully discuss the item and establish a clear Search Plan with you before the search begins. This includes confirming:

  • The exact item you are looking for
  • Preferred condition
  • Acceptable signs of wear or damage
  • Required accessories or original packaging
  • Conditions under which the item may be purchased
  • Recommended product budget
  • Maximum acceptable purchase conditions
  • Any other important requirements

This step is especially important for rare items. Japanese flea market and auction listings can sell very quickly. Instead of waiting for your approval every time a suitable item appears, we establish the purchase conditions before the search begins. This allows us to act quickly when the right item is found.

4
Step 4
Quote & Deposit

Based on the Search Plan, we provide a formal quote. The quote includes:

  • Treasure Search service fee: ¥12,000 / month
  • Recommended product budget
  • Applicable domestic shipping costs, if required

To begin Treasure Search, the service fee and product purchase deposit must be paid in advance. The recommended product budget is determined based on our initial research, including the current market price and rarity of the item.

The product purchase deposit is not a service fee. It is a budget held for purchasing the requested item.

5
Step 5
Treasure Search Begins

Once payment and the product purchase deposit have been confirmed, we begin the one-month Treasure Search. Throughout the search period, we may:

  • Regularly check Japanese flea market sites
  • Monitor Japanese auction sites
  • Search relevant online stores and marketplaces
  • Check newly listed items using relevant keywords
  • Contact stores by email when necessary
  • Contact stores by phone when necessary
  • Use X to gather information or seek leads when appropriate

Our search methods may vary depending on the product and where it is likely to appear.

We don’t simply search once and stop. We continue looking throughout the one-month service period.

6
Step 6
Purchase When the Right Item Is Found

When an item that meets the conditions agreed upon in Step 3 is found, Japan Treasure Hunter can proceed with the purchase based on those pre-approved conditions.

Because timing is important on Japanese flea market and auction sites, we do not require you to approve every individual purchase after the search has started. The purchase conditions are agreed upon in advance so that we can act quickly when the right item appears.

Easy Buy service is included with Treasure Search. This means that when a suitable item is found, we can proceed with the purchase on your behalf.

7
Step 7
Product Budget Settlement

After purchasing the item, we settle the actual costs using the product purchase deposit. This may include:

  • Product cost
  • Applicable domestic shipping within Japan

If the actual amount used is less than the deposited product budget, the unused portion will be refunded. The deposit is used only for approved product-related costs.

8
Step 8
International Shipping

Once your purchased item arrives at our Japan address, we arrange international shipping.

International shipping is invoiced separately after the item arrives. International shipping is not included in the Treasure Search service fee or the product purchase deposit.

For detailed information about international shipping, please see our International Shipping Guide.

Treasure Search Fee

💴 Treasure Search Fee
Monthly fee¥12,000 / Month
The Treasure Search service fee includes:
  • Free initial research
  • Research Report
  • Search Plan preparation and detailed consultation
  • One month of ongoing online searching
  • Monitoring of Japanese flea market sites
  • Monitoring of Japanese auction sites
  • Searching relevant online stores and marketplaces
  • Store inquiries by email when necessary
  • Store inquiries by phone when necessary
  • X-based information gathering or outreach when appropriate
  • Easy Buy service for items found during the search
Product costs, domestic shipping, and international shipping are not included in the monthly service fee.

About the Product Purchase Deposit

A product purchase deposit is required before the Treasure Search begins.

The deposit allows us to purchase a suitable item quickly when it is found.

This is particularly important for Japanese flea market and auction sites, where desirable items may sell shortly after being listed.

Before the search begins, we carefully agree on the conditions under which an item may be purchased.

The deposit is then prepared based on the recommended product budget established during the initial research.

Any unused portion of the product purchase deposit will be refunded after the search period.

What If the Item Cannot Be Found?

We make every reasonable effort to locate your requested item, but Treasure Search does not guarantee that an item will be found.

Rare and discontinued products may not appear during the search period.

An item may also:

  • Already be sold
  • No longer be available
  • Be listed only occasionally
  • Not appear online during the one-month search period

The Treasure Search service fee is non-refundable once the search has begun, because it covers the research and ongoing search service itself.

However, any unused portion of the product purchase deposit will be refunded.

How Is Treasure Search Different from Deep Research?

Treasure Search

Treasure Search is a one-month ongoing search service.

It is designed for rare or hard-to-find items that may require repeated searches and monitoring before they appear.

¥12,000 / month

In simple terms:

“I need you to research this.” → Deep Research

“I need you to keep looking for this.” → Treasure Search

Why Choose Treasure Search?

Some products cannot be found simply by searching once.

A rare item might be listed tomorrow.

A collector might decide to sell their item next week.

A previously unavailable product might suddenly appear on a Japanese flea market or auction site.

That’s why Treasure Search doesn’t stop after one search.

We keep looking.

Instead of asking you to repeatedly check Japanese websites yourself, Japan Treasure Hunter monitors the Japanese market for you throughout the service period.

Our goal is simple:

To help you find Japanese treasures that would otherwise be difficult to locate from overseas.
